Clay County Through the Years: Jackson Township formed in 1832

Jackson Township, named in honor of President Andrew Jackson, was organized out of Washington and Posey Townships in 1832. The country was originally covered with a dense forest of hardwood trees. Coal was found in all parts of the township. The township contains three chief waterways: Birch Creek, Croy's Creek and Mclntire Creek.
