William Kennedy and the Kennedy Tavern

The first of the Kennedy family to come to Clay County were William Kennedy and his wife, Sarah Russell Kennedy. Both were born and reared in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. They were married and came first to Cincinnati, Ohio, where they remained for six years, and then moved to Parke County, Indiana. During their 16-year stay in Parke County, they lived on land part of which is now the Turkey Run State Park. They were of Scotch-Irish-English background.
