Why not introduce quail in Clay County?

Sunday, February 7, 2016

To the editor:

Since a severe winter of much snow and cold weather, we have no quail in Clay County. We have introduced turkeys and deer with a great deal success. My question is why we can't we take some of the great deal of money being received from deer license and attempt to introduce quail. I think hens should be allowed to hatch a covey in captivity and the hen and her young to be released in cover for it to be successful. It sure would be worth a try. I recently saw on TV that Texas has an abundance of quail and the hens may be acquired from there.
