UPDATE: Police have suspect in Friday bank robbery
It took police about 15 minutes to apprehend a man they believe robbed the First Financial Bank in Brazil on Friday.
Bryan E. Anderson, 39, Coatesville, was apprehended and taken into custody. Information concerning his preliminary charges and bond were not immediately available.
Police were called around 5:45 p.m. to a report of a robbery at the First Financial branch at 2180 E. National Ave., which is on the city's east side.
Brazil Police Department Chief Clint McQueen said the suspect presented a threatening note and demanded cash. He then received an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a vehicle east on U.S. 40.
Said to be a white male, witnesses were also able to describe the suspect's black truck, McQueen reports. At about 6:03 p.m. and a few miles into Putnam County, Indiana State Police trooper James Crisp located a vehicle fitting the description given to police, according to the ISP.
"They made a traffic stop and were able to make an arrest and determine that was the person who committed the bank robbery," McQueen said. The suspect was transported to the Clay County jail.
Authorities at the scene on Friday confirmed the robbery occurred at the end of business while employees were still at work. No injuries occurred during the incident.
Brazil police are being assisted by ISP crime scene investigators who will process evidence at the scene. BPD detectives were also summoned to interview witnesses and assist in evidence collection, McQueen said.
"We are in the process of executing search warrants in this case to collect more evidence," the chief said. "The investigation is ongoing until we can tie up all ends of the case as fully and completely as we can."
