CLAY COUNTY THROUGH THE YEARS: The Danville Crossing

As noted in last week’s article, “The Y” became Markland in June of 1873; it later became Huntersville and finally became Clay City in December of 1875. While this name changing was taking place, another town site was platted a mile a half southeast of “The Y” and a mile and a quarter east of Middlebury. It too was platted alongside the grade of the Terre Haute & Southeastern Railroad, later known as Evansville & Indianapolis Railroad.
