To the editor:

Normally I would not respond to a rebuttal such as the one to my recent “Frogs” article. However, I could not help but notice how the rebuttal, though intending to be a rebuttal, only further proved my point. My point is that wage growth has not kept with inflation, while the billionaires have increased their wealth at least 4X the inflation rate.

In Ms. Sidman’s rebuttal she stated that 77 million American families (45 percent of the total U.S. population) paid no income tax at all. To me, this can only be possible for three reasons: 1. Seventy-seven million American families are so poverty stricken that they do not qualify to pay taxes. 2. Or those 77 million American families are very wealthy and use tax loopholes to avoid paying taxes. 3. The final reason is a combination of both.

Also stated in Ms. Sidman’s article is a reference that 20 percent of the U.S. population paid 87 percent of the total U.S. income tax collected. To me, that population would have to show tremendous income to generate that much tax. Therefore, her evidence plainly confirms the real distribution of wealth, the imbalance in the tax code, and my article. Thanks Sally.
