Annunciation Catholic Church is having a St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry Yard Sale at 19 N. Alabama from 3 to 8 p.m., July 19, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 20. Call 812-243-2595 to reserve a space. 

The Dickison-Hull reunion will start at noon, July 27, at the Forest Park pavilion.

DON’T FORGET: Book Folding Art craft at the Brazil Public Library. Learn a fun, easy, and simple way to make a unique handmade art piece just by folding the pages of a book.

On July 27th from 5–8 p.m., Launch Academy is having a fundraiser with smoked pork loin dinner, which includes baked beans applesauce coleslaw and chips drinks and desserts. It is $5 for anyone child or adult. We are also having a small silent auction.  All proceeds will go to make necessary improvements to Launch Academy. Sponsored by Be Nice Be Kind, the dinner is being served on the 2nd floor of the launch academy building located at 100 N Forest Ave. next to the Eagles. 

The Brazil High School Class of 1959 60th reunion will be at the Brazil Elks Lodge #762, located at 19 South Sherfey Street, Brazil, on Saturday, July 20. The event will run from 5–9 p.m. Classmates and spouses of the Class of 1969 are invited to attend, with a cost of $30 per person.

YMCA Day Camp in Clay County runs May 29th- August 2nd, Monday-Friday 6 a.m.–6 p.m. for grades K-8. The camp will be located at Forest Park Elementary Camp May 29th - July 12th and at the Clay County YMCA July 15th- Aug 2nd.

The Indiana Department of Veterans Services has announced the 2018 Women’s Veterans Conference will take place on Friday, July 12 from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Indiana War Memorial. The memorial is located at 55 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Every day there are veterans in our community who are unable to get to their medical appointment at the Richard L. Roudebush VS Medical Center located in Indianapolis, Indiana, or to one of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics, due to lack of transportation. Serve your community by volunteering to drive Veterans to and from their medical appointments by using vans provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Due to state-mandated training, the Superior and Circuit Court Clerk Offices, as well as the Election Office at the Clay County Courthouse, will be closed from 12–1 p.m. July 15-26. 

The Clay Community School Board of Trustees meets in regular session the second Thursday of each month in the Board Room of the Central Administrative Office, 1013 South Forest Avenue, Brazil. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. unless otherwise notified.

The YMCA Clay County Youth Food Delivery Program is blogging! Each week they plan to publish a blog on our website, http://www.thebraziltimes.com. 

The First Presbyterian Church in Brazil will serve dinner from 5 to 5:30 p.m. every Sunday. The free dinners are available to anyone in the community, and to-go boxes are available. The church is located at 210 N. Walnut St., Brazil.

The Brazil Church of the Nazarene Children’s Clothes Closet is located at 1002 E National Ave. To place an order for a needy child, call the church office at 812-446-0371. 

First Baptist Church Kid’s Kloset, 413 S. Walnut St., Brazil, is open most Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Call the church office, 812-448-8112, to make an appointment. If no answer, leave a message with a name and number, sizes, and gender of each child and the type of clothing they need.

The Brazil Times is a drop-off location for used glasses and hearing aids for the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program. A drop box is located inside the Times, 531 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The Clay County Health Department offers assistance with tobacco cessation. The department provides an 8-10 week program that features education and support as well as free nicotine patches (prescription required). For more information, call 812-448-9019.

The Clay County Genealogy Library in Center Point is open every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Society meets every third Tuesday at 1 p.m.; the public is welcome to attend. For additional information, contact volunteers at 812-835-5005 when the library is open.

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter hosts support groups across the state for unpaid care partners, family members, and friends of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia. The groups meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. at the Vigo County Public Library, Terre Haute.

Staunton Narcotics Anonymous meetings will take place every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Family Worship Center, located at 8157 N. County Road 425 W. Brazil. For more information, see www.claycountyymca.org. 

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety and City Council will meet on the second Wednesday of each month and the fourth Wednesday when warranted. The Board of Works meets at 10 a.m., and the City Council meets at 5 p.m. Both meetings are in the council chambers in City Hall on National Avenue.
