UPDATE - At 2:42 p.m. officials confirmed that US 40 is now open.

BREAKING: Portion of US 40 closed due to gas leak

A section of U.S. 40 between Knightsville and Harmony is closed, and traffic is being rerouted due to a natural gas leak.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., Clay County 911 Dispatch was notified of the leak by construction crews working in the area. Apparently, a natural gas line was breached.

Indiana State Police troopers are helping with traffic, which is being rerouted in both lanes around County Road 100 and 200 East while workers repair the line.

Vectren Gas employees are on-site to determine the damage and make repairs.

It is unclear at this time how long the road will remain closed.

No injuries have been reported during the incident.

The Brazil Times will update this story when and if further official information is provided.
