Firefighters on scene of structure fire

SUBMITTED - Courtesy of Brazil resident Kenny Rogers - taken at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the neighborhood near the intersection of Lambert and Railroad streets.

Members of the Brazil Fire Department were on the scene of a structure fire in the neighborhood of Lambert and Railroad streets, just south of the Clay County Courthouse Tuesday night.

Thick smoke with a strong odor hung over several neighborhoods in the city as flames billowed into upwards to 15-20 feet in the air. The fire department was able to knock the fire down within minutes upon arrival.

Traffic has been blocked on south Lambert to allow for emergency vehicles to have access to the area. Motorists should consider an alternate route of travel if going through that area until officials open the road.

Due to the firefighters still working to ensure the fire is out, further details are not available at this time. The Brazil Times will update this story.
