• Purdue Extension is holding a pond management workshop at the Owen County Fairgrounds, 364 East St, at 6 p.m. on the 11th of March. This program will discuss topics such as maintenance and control of nuisance plant and other wildlife, and what benefits are derived from a healthy pond environment. This is a great opportunity to bring in problem plants from your own ponds for identification and advice! • On Saturday, March 14 launch academy will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and silent auction on the second floor of the launch building 100 n forest ave. from 4-7pm Building and entrance is handicap accessible. Silent auction will end at 6:30. We will be taking orders for Hunts Pleasant Acres cookbooks and the children will be playing the game Are You Smarter than a Launcher sponsored by State Farm Insurance. Hope you can join us. • The Clay County Election Board will conduct a public test of the voting machines to be used in the May Primary on Saturday, March 7,, at 1 p.m. in the Courthouse, room 211. The public is welcome to attend.

• The Brazil Public Library, 204 North Walnut Street, Brazil, offers many programs for people of all ages to attend. The following are two upcoming programs:

Storm Spotting Training from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, April 4. The training will include interpretation of cloud structures and radar images associated with severe weather, presented by the NWS, NOAA and SkyWarn. • Cub Scout Pack 45 will be doing a spaghetti dinner fundraiser and recruitment event at the VFW Post 1127 on March 14th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• The Christian Women’s Connection of Terre Haute invites you to a luncheon on March 17 in the MCL meeting room at Meadows Shopping Center at 11 a.m. The speaker will be Mary Haddad sharing her message, Survival and Success in the Search for Significance. • The public is invited to Ivy Tech Community College’s Community Health & Wellness Fair on Thursday, Mar. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ivy Tech Terre Haute, at 8000 S. Education Drive. Union Health will provide free health screenings including blood pressure and glucose/cholesterol.

• The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety and City Council will meet on the second Wednesday of each month and on the fourth Wednesday when warranted. The Board of Works meets at 10 a.m., and the City Council meets at 5 p.m. Both meetings are in the council chambers in City Hall on National Avenue.

• All Vets Service Club will meet at 8 a.m., Wednesday, at Cloverleaf Healthcare Center, Knightsville, with breakfast at 8:30 a.m.

• Registration is open for Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute’s 5th annual 5K Fun Run and Walk, which will take place Saturday, March 7. For questions, contact the Ivy Tech Foundation at 812-298-2450.

• The Clay Community School Board of Trustees meets in regular session the second Thursday of each month in the Board Room of the Central Administrative Office, 1013 South Forest Avenue, Brazil. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. unless otherwise notified.

• Lincoln Day Dinner tickets are being sold by March 5th for $25. At the door the price will be $30. We are having the dinner at Center Point United Methodist Church, Doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Our Guest Speaker is US Senator Mike Braun.

• The Brazil Times is a drop-off location for used glasses and hearing aids for the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program. A drop box is located inside the Times, 531 E. National Ave., Brazil.

• The Clay County Health Department offers assistance with tobacco cessation. The department provides an 8-10 week program that features education and support as well as free nicotine patches (prescription required). For more information, call 812-448-9019.

• The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the availability of two programs that protect hemp producers’ crops from natural disasters. A pilot hemp insurance program through Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) provides coverage against loss of yield because of insurable causes of loss for hemp grown for fiber, grain or Cannabidiol (CBD) oil and the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) coverage protects against losses associated with lower yields, destroyed crops or prevented planting where no permanent federal crop insurance program is available. Producers may apply now, and the deadline to sign up for both programs is March 16, 2020.

• The Tri Kappa Fashion Show will be March 7th, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds. Tickets are $20.

• Clay Co Republican Club will meet monthly at the YMCA Community Room at 7 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of the month.

• TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets Thursday at the YMCA in the community room from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

• Cornerstone Christian Assembly Preschool/Kindergarten round-up is on Tuesday, March 17th at 6:00. The open house for grades 1-5 is from 6:30-7:00.
