Looking for Difference Makers: Banquet postponed, but keep sending in those nominations

“We are in this together,” said Senior General Manager Jeanne Burris, who urged residents keep up-to-date all the local information regarding COVID-19 on the newspaper’s website at www.thebraziltimes.com, and posts made on Facebook.

As Clay County residents prepared to nominate those whom they think make a difference in someone’s life for the annual Difference Maker of the Year that is announced each April, the COVID-19 outbreak arrived and has many people scrambling to prepare for the virus.

“We aren’t canceling the event, just postponing the Difference Makers banquet, which was scheduled for April 15, until this health crisis is over,” said Jeanne Burris, Senior General Manager for The Brazil Times. “We are still going to be advertising the event, which included the nomination form. We want people to still send in their nomination forms for individuals they believe are making a difference in our community.”

The extra time will allow more people to become involved in the event, which has previously honored  John Moore in 2018, and Mary Yelton in 2019.

“We always look forward to the banquet,” said Burris about the award sponsored by The Times and area businesses. “Each one has been memorable, and this year will be too. We look forward to once again honoring our community’s difference makers. So please continue to bring in your nominations.”

The COVID-19 is on everyone’s mind.

One of the most important questions that loom large during this “fluid situation” is how do we can help each other during this highly emotional time.

The Brazil Times will be covering the story as it unfolds at the local level. As our community struggles with this health emergency, The Times’ staff is also struggling with the same concerns as we work to provide local news coverage of this event and the local stories that matter to you.

“We are in this together,” said Burris who urges local residents to keep up-to-date on all information regarding COVID-19 on the newspaper’s website at www.thebraziltimes.com, and posts made on Facebook.
