• Governor closes public schools until May 1.

On Thursday afternoon, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed an executive order extending K-12 school closures to May 1.

Shortly after, Clay County Schools Superintendent Jeff Fritz released a statement regarding the county’s plans, stating, “State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick left open the option for eLearning days. Spring break for CCS is next week, March 23 – 27. CCS will be evaluating our eLearning day options and issuing a statement within the next few days on our post-spring break plans.”

Fritz said in his statement that Clay County Schools have provided food items to food assistance programs, food pantries and ministires around the area and that each “have been delivering food to students and families in the community. We will be considering additional options that may be implemented after spring break.”

Fritz announced all state assessments have been canceled. He left the door open regarding the possibility of graduations still taking place, stating, “Graduations are still being discussed at the state level. Please know that CCS will work diligently to hopefully schedule graduation ceremonies sometime later this spring.”

“By partnering together, it is our goal to provide a sense of stability and normalcy in these very difficult times. Obviously, the safety and wellbeing of our school family and community are of the utmost importance,” Fritz’ statement concluded.
