County Commissioners announce plans to re-open courthouse

Friday, May 8, 2020

After carefully reviewing the Governor’s Executive Orders, recommendations, and guidelines, the Clay County Commissioners have announced that County Employees will report to work at their normal times next Monday, May 11th; however, the Courthouse and other County Offices will remain closed to the public from May 11-May 15th. During this week, if you need to contact someone in a County Office, please call that office and someone will help you with your question or concern. If your problem cannot be solved over the telephone, the office will make an appointment for you to go to the County Office to meet with someone to help you with your concern.

We realize there will be some exceptions to this rule. Some people will need to enter the Courthouse for deeds and the Judges/Courts and Prosecutor’s Office will need to meet to conduct needed and required business.

On Monday, May 18th, all county offices will re-open to the general public. With all offices re-opening on May 18th, we still encourage you to call an office if your concern or problem can be taken care of over the phone. We prefer to not have a great influx of people into the County Offices for the safety and welfare of everyone.

Anyone entering the Courthouse or other County Offices will be required to wear a face mask. The individual must provide their own mask to wear. The wearing of a face mask is for the protection of all individuals and the County employees. If you are sick or feeling ill, please stay home. Our goal is for no one to spread the Virus at any time. We must all do our part by staying home as much as possible and especially when we are not feeling well.

When in a County Office, we are asking everyone to keep social distancing as much as possible. When entering an office to discuss a concern, please stay apart the recommended 6 feet. When passing in the hallways, please stay 6 feet apart when possible. Now is not the time to let our guard down and assume everything is back to normal because it is not.

The counters in each office, door knobs, water fountains, bath rooms, etc will be cleaned on a routine basis. Hand sanitizers will be located inside the east and west doors to the Courthouse on a table. We encourage your use of the hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizers will also be located in each office. Everyone is encouraged to wash your hands often through-out the day and especially when you have left your home.

The Governor has stressed and stressed that each of us must take responsibility to reduce the spread of the disease. So, continue to stay at home as much as possible, wear a mask when going to a business, possibly wear rubber gloves, use hand sanitizers whenever possible, and wash your hands often. We want to continue to reduce and eliminate the Virus in Clay County. May each of us do our part!!

We want to thank everyone for your patience, assistance, and support during this time of crises in our Country. This has been a different lifestyle for all of us. Hopefully, we are now getting back to a better routine for all of us as businesses, restaurants, and churches begin to re-open. We all need to work within the guideless, recommendations, and requirements of these facilities to make sure we are doing our part to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Stay safe and healthy!
