TOP STORY OF THE DAY: Second reported COVID-19 death, cases rise to 51

Although the information is not updated on the Indiana State Health Department (ISDH) website, on Monday Clay County Public Health Nurse Kim Hyatt confirmed the second death from coronavirus in the county.

Hyatt said the local resident had been hospitalized for the illness before their death. Further details are not being released due to the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Hyatt confirmed the total of positive COVID-19 cases in Clay County remains is currently at 51, with three patients hospitalized. The total number of cases tested so far in Clay county is 903. Of the remaining COVID-19 cases reported, Hyatt confirmed the remaining patients are in various stages of recovery.

The ISDH reports 34,830 positive cases have been reported among the 6.7 million Indiana residents, with 265,896 residents tested, and 1,970 deaths reported to the ISDH. (The numbers are considered to be provisional, reflecting only the information published to the ISDH.)

Indiana residents whose deaths a physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause, are based on X-rays, scans, and other clinical symptoms with an absence of a COVID-19 test. None are reported in Clay County at this time. However, the ISDH reports 166 throughout the state.
