There will be $76,000 worth of food and hygiene products given away in four distributions starting June 13. Those packages of food and toiletries will be large, containing 95 items each, said, Mayor Brian Wyndham.

A new addition to the program: originally the grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs was to be for Brazil residents only, but Mayor Wyndham received permission to include anyone who lives in Clay County.

Jim Jacobs Farms is providing 900 pounds of freezer beef. Other providers are Save-A-Lot and Dollar Tree Store.

If someone is a shut-in and cannot get to the distributions at First Christian church on U.S. 40 West, they can contact Janet McClellan at City Hall and request permission to send a representative for them.

The distribution is for those who have had their income affected by COVID-19, for senior citizens and low-income people.

"We want to get it where it needs to go," the Mayor said about the items being distributed.

The distributions are scheduled at 9 a.m., June 13, 27, July 11 and 25th.

The distribution is being assisted by the Clay County Emergency Food Pantry and Senior Citizens of Clay County.

Mayor Wyndham reminded the city council of the food and hygiene distributions during Wednesday's meeting of the Brazil City Council.

In other business:

• The council repealed an ordinance requiring new water service applicants to pay back water bills. The change was made after the State of Indiana made that change to the Indiana Code.

• The council also discussed Treasurer Karen McQueen and Councilman Shane Litz's request to set a limit on how much the city will have to pay for refunds. She said currently the city has to cut checks for as little as $1. No action was taken on that request.

• Councilman Brad Deal suggested the city's new logo be put on the city water tower on I-70. Mayor Wyndham said he would get an estimate.

• Councilman Steve Bell suggested the logo be put on the city trucks also.

All members of the city council were in attendance including Shane Litz, Karen Boes, Steve Bell, Brad Deal and Angela Modesitt; Treasurer Karen McQueen, and Attorney Traci Orman.
