TOP STORY OF THE DAY: COVID-19 UPDATE - 56 cases

As of Thursday, June 11, the number of positive COVID-19 cases increased to 56, according to information provided by the Indiana State Department of Health.

In the Wabash Valley, the ISDH data shows Clay County is near the middle of the ranking for COVID-19 positive cases when considering neighboring counties in District 7.

The eight counties included are:

• VIGO - 198 Positive Cases among the 3,606 tested, with eight deaths.

• GREENE - 177 Positive Cases among the 1,291 tested, with 28 deaths.

• PUTNAM - 149 Positive Cases among the 1,748 tested, with eight deaths.

• CLAY - 56 Positive Cases among the 1,168 tested, with three deaths.

• SULLIVAN - 41 Positive Cases among the 1,018 tested, with one death.

• OWEN - 31 Positive Cases among the 970 tested, with one death.

• PARKE - 19 Positive Cases among the 510 tested, with no deaths reported.

• VERMILLION - 10 Positive Cases among the 439 tested, with no deaths reported.

The ISDH reports 38,748 positive cases among the 6.7 million Indiana residents, with 327,342 residents tested, and 2,198 deaths reported. The state’s data suggests of the Indiana residents tested, approximately 11.8 percent of Indiana residents are confirmed positive as of Thursday, June 11.

Indiana residents whose deaths a physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause are diagnosed based on X-rays, scans, and other clinical symptoms with an absence of a COVID-19 test. There are none reported in Clay County at this time. However, the ISDH website shows 182 throughout the state.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US), there are 1,973,797 cases reported in the United States, with a total of 112,133 deaths.
