BULLETIN: Stabbing victim's identity confirmed

BULLETIN: The name of the stabbing victim was released by Brazil City Police Chief Clint McQueen on Thursday afternoon. He is Carl Haviland, age 53, of Brazil.

Details are limited, but Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen confirms the department is investigating an overnight fatal stabbing.

McQueen confirmed a Brazil man was taken in custody earlier this morning.

A call to the Clay County 911 Dispatch Center shortly after midnight reported the incident. Officers from the BPD, Clay County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police responded.

Upon arrival at 236 East National Avenue, McQueen said officers helped provide medical assistance along with members of the Brazil Fire Department until STAR Ambulance personal were able to make transport to the hospital. The victim later died from the injuries.

The victim's name is being withheld at this time pending notification of the family.

There were several people at the scene providing information to the officers.

"Information was quickly available," said McQueen. "This allowed us to determine and locate a suspect within minutes of our arrival."

Officials confirm Cody Allen Wade, 29, Brazil, was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Justice Center. Wade is currently being held on potential charges which will be provided in the preliminary case report expected to be turned over to the Clay County Prosecutor's Office later this morning, said McQueen.

The Indiana State Police Crime Scene investigators are assisting in the investigation at the scene.
