COVID-19 "spike" arrives in Clay County - 124 cases

The discussion about a “spike” of positive COVID-19 cases arrived over the weekend as Clay County went from 104 late Thursday afternoon to 124 Monday.

The Clay County Health Department confirmed that more residents had been tested, which are out to labs, but results have not returned.

The Indiana State Department of Health updated Clay County’s information at noon Monday, citing the following information:

Total Individuals Tested - 2,648

Total Positive Cases -124

Total Deaths Reported - 5

Total Positivity Rate - 4.7 percent

The United States Census estimates that Clay County’s population is 26,888, which means an estimated 9.85 percent of the residents (2,648) have been tested for the coronavirus, with 4.685 percent of those tested coming back positive (124).

At noon Friday, July 31, Clay County’s total positive COVID-19 cases was 94.

In the 10 days that followed, that number increased 30 in Clay County as Hoosiers were urged by health officials and Gov. Eric Holcomb “to be on their best behavior” as the Stage 4.5 of Indiana’s Back On Track opening plan continues until August 27.
