The man who cut off a Clay County Community Corrections’ home detention monitor Monday, August 10, and fled was discovered at an Indianapolis hotel on August 21. It took a SWAT Team to get him out and bring him back to Clay County.

Clay County Sheriff’s Department confirms detectives tracked Jeffrey Sean Hook, 39, Harmony, to the Indianapolis area, and with assistance from Indiana State Police attempted to take Hook into custody on a felony arrest warrant issued out of Clay Circuit Court on the level 4 charge of Escape – knowingly or intentionally fleeing from home detention.

However, he refused, and the ISP SWAT Team was called to remove Hook from the room.

Once removed, Hook was transported back to the Clay County Justice Center to be booked on the new warrant charge and placed into custody on the charges he was awaiting formal court proceedings when he escaped, including:

(Stemming from an incident on May 23, 2020) Hook faces charges of level 4 felony Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, Possession of methamphetamine between 5-10 grams, level 6 felony Possession of controlled substance with enhancing circumstances, Class A misdemeanor Resisting law enforcement - intentionally flees, Carrying a handgun without a license, and class B misdemeanor Possession of marijuana.

Hook was issued two consecutive cash bonds for the two cases that totaled $32,000, with no 10 percent allowed. (NOTE: Each has to be paid before the offender can be released.)

Hook has appeared in court for an initial hearing on the Escape charge, with a jury trial tentatively scheduled for February 22, 2021. He has been returned into the custody of the jail staff at CCJC to await further court proceedings.
