Twelve new positive COVID-19 cases were reported to health officials in Clay County since Thursday, September 10. That brings the overall total to 277 since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

A total of 4,380 unique individuals out of an estimated 26,501 Clay County residents have been tested with 5,732 tests overall completed.

While only five deaths reported locally and the rest of the confirmed cases have either recovered or currently in recovery, there appears to be good news locally.

However, 183 cases were confirmed within the past 45 days. So the virus is officially in the area, and there is concern the number of positive cases will surpass 300 within another week or two.

At noon Saturday, March 28, the Clay County Health Department announced the first positive case of a novel coronavirus in Clay County. At that time, health officials urged people to stay home if they didn’t need to go out, follow the safe handwashing and social distancing techniques to help stop the virus’s spread.

Hyatt told The Brazil Times then and repeated it again Monday, “We need people to continue to do what we all have been told to do. We can get this under control.”
