SUBMITTED by Kenny Rogers - Brazil resident Kenny Rogers captured these photos of the Brazil Fire Department responding at a fire Tuesday evening in the 800 block of North Alabama Street, Brazil.

“The firefighters did a great job of getting a stop on it quickly. Another few minutes and it may have breached the roof,” said the fire chief, adding damage was kept to a minimum while firefighters checked the home for potential spread of the fire.

Duke Energy also responded, said Bennett, as the electricity was disconnected from the house.

Meanwhile, Bennett confirmed the fire department was also dispatched to the smell of gas or propane in the area of South Walnut Street. A team of firefighters responded to investigate the possible gas leak.

“This is one of many incidents that Brazil firefighters deserve praise for,” said Bennett. “They do a great job providing a professional service for the City, day in and day out.”

With the recent drought, temporary burn bans have been issued by Clay County Commissioners until rain returns.

Citing the current dry conditions and that houses within the city are close in proximity, Bennett said, “Within the city limits, we aren’t allowing any open burning at all, and the permitting process for ceremonial and recreational fires are temporarily suspended.”
