Saturday, October 31, 2020

Families with students at Meridian Elementary will be moving to eLearning Monday, November 2, due to a staff member testing positive for COVID-19.

Clay Community School Corporation released information late Saturday afternoon in an email:

"We were informed on Saturday, October 31, 2020, a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. Due to this staff member testing positive, we will move to eLearning beginning Monday, November 2, and return to traditional in-person instruction on Monday, November 16. Our school will be sanitized and ready to receive the students upon their return. Our school corporation follows the guidance of Clay County health officials. Although confidentiality is required, parents of students identified as close contacts, at school or on the bus, with the person who tested positive will be contacted.

Close contact is defined as contact within six feet for 15 minutes or more. Individuals who test positive or are close contacts will be provided guidance from local health officials.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19, it is important for parents to remind their children the importance of wearing face coverings, washing their hands, and social distancing when possible. It is also vital for parents to conduct self-screening of their children each morning and to keep children home if they display any symptoms. Please contact the Clay County Health Department or our office if you have any questions."

Superintendent Jeff Fritz said COVID-19 continues to be a fluid situation, and the patience and cooperation of families during this situation is much appreciated.

"If parents have questions about moving to eLearning, they can contact Meridian Elementary Monday morning," Fritz said, adding staff members who are not in quarantine will be on hand during the school day.

To maintain transparency about COVID-19 in the schools, Fritz said parents could view the CCSC RoadMap Information online at https://in02200674.schoolwires.net/.
