VCSC Wabash Valley Classics announces multiple changes

Tuesday, December 22, 2020

As the Vigo County School Corporation Wabash Valley Classic draws closer and closer, the holiday tournament announced another set of changes to the 21st annual event Tuesday evening.

The updates and changes are listed below:

• With First Financial Bank dropping out as the main sponsor for this year only, Vigo County School Corporation will have the tournament’s namesake for 2020. However, SERVPRO, York Automotive Group of Brazil and Ryan Luce of State Farm have become sponsors.

• The two brackets will now be called the Rob York Chevrolet Bracket (Terre Haute North) and Ryan Luce State Farm Bracket (Terre Haute South).

• Riverton Parke and Shakamak have withdrawn from the Wabash Valley Classic due to COVID-19, leaving South Vermillion and West Vigo without first-round opponents. Each will receive byes but have decided to play each other Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Terre Haute North in a game that does not count for tournament purposes.

• Having a 14-team field now instead of the previously scheduled 16 teams, the six teams that lose their opening-round games will be put into two three-team pods. In an attempt to get a certain number of games to determine the winner of each pod, one team from each bracket will be forced to play two games on Dec. 28. Those games will take place at Terre Haute North. Winner’s bracket games will take place at Terre Haute South.

• All games will be streamed on Terre Haute North’s and Terre Haute South’s athletic department YouTube pages, while each player will receive two tickets per game for their parents and/or guardians.
