A Brazil man faces felony charges after a domestic dispute on New Year’s Eve.

Garret Corey Newhouse, 33, Brazil, has been preliminarily charged with felony Intimidation and Invasion of privacy, and misdemeanor Resisting law enforcement. He is held on a $7,000 cash bond awaiting formal court proceedings at the Clay County Justice Center.

The incident began when an unidentified female caller notified Clay County 911 Dispatch around 3 p.m. Thursday. The woman said Newhouse was allegedly causing a disturbance, threatening physical violence, and damaging property inside and to vehicles outside a rural Clay County residence near North County Road 900 and County Road 500 West.

When officials arrived, including a K-9 unit, Newhouse had barricaded himself inside the home, refusing to come out.

The female resident and a juvenile safely got out of the home and went to a nearby house.

After three hours and several attempts to get Newhouse to surrender to authorities, officers acquired a search warrant for the residence. Officers found nothing during the initial search. However, Newhouse was taken into custody after a more thorough examination by officers, discovering him hiding in the attic insulation.

Newhouse still refused to cooperate with officers, and, after several minutes, a canine was utilized to apprehend him.
