LOCAL BRIEFS: ‘Friends of the Library’ event set this week

The Clay County “Friends of the Library” monthly sale will take place this week.

Dates and times are:

June 17 — 2-6 p.m.

June 18/19 — 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The sale will take place at the garage across the street from the library at 204 N. Walnut Street in Brazil.

Children’s books and all paperback books are 50 cents each, while hardback books are $1.

The sale is open to all, and no library cards are needed.

BCB to sponsor ‘Dad’s Night Out’

The Brazil Concert Band will present Dad’s Night Out on Sunday June 20th, 8 p.m., in Forest Park rain or shine.

The BCB and Director Matthew S. Huber will honor Fathers’ Day with a variety of music including a march written by John Camp.

John Camp is a retired Lt. Commander in the United States Navy and recently retired from teaching at Ivy Tech.

He plays French horn in the BCB and trombone in the Jackson Township Community Band and will guest conduct his composition “Forest Park March”.

Sunday’s program includes “Our Director” by F. E. Bigelow, “The Golden Dragon Overture” and “Hosts of Freedom” both by Karl L. King, and “Porgy and Bess” arranged by Paul Yoder.

Also, “Presidential Polonaise” and “Golden Jubilee” both by John Philip Sousa, “Night Train” arranged by Paul Yoder, “Trombone Blues” by Fred Jewell and “A Melodic Caravan” by Jimmy McHugh.

St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry will run the Forest Park Concession Stand this week.

The Brazil Concert Band performs every Sunday in Forest Park June, July and August.

UMC food giveaway

The Brazil First United Methodist Church (201 N. Meridian St.) offers a free home-cooked meal every Wednesday along with a free bag of groceries every Wednesday.

Serving starts at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.

This service is free to anyone in the community!
