IVY JACOBS PHOTO - Indiana Senator Jon Ford presents Posey township Volunteer Firefighter Garald “Eddie” Hastings with Senate Resolution #69 to honor his service as a first responder Sunday during a monthly meeting at the Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Indiana Senator (R) Jon Ford stopped by Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department this weekend to say “thanks” to the department for their hard work for the community they serve and to honor one of their own.

“The Senate tries to honor first responders the best we can throughout the years,” said Ford. “I thank all of you for the wonderful work you do. Our volunteer fire departments are the backbone of Indiana.”

Ford presented Firefighter Garald “Eddie” Hastings with the SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Garald “Eddie” Hastings on being awarded the 2020 First Responder of the Year Award and the 2020 Firefighter of the Year Award from the Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Senate Resolution was authored by Ford and adopted on its first reading on April 21.

Hastings has been a volunteer firefighter for 23 years on departments in South Bend, Van Buren, and Posey while also serving as a correctional officer with the Indiana Department of Corrections in Carlisle, Indiana.

Humble like always, Hastings nodded his appreciation and said, “Thank you.”
