CLAY COUNTY THROUGH THE YEARS: McNary Beecher Frump a Clay County General Representative
Beecher, as he was called, was the fourth child of John and Betsey Jane (Matthews) Frump. He was born on Friday, May 6, 1853, in the town of Harmony of Clay County. Beecher’s father, John had been Treasurer for Van Buren Township for ten consecutive years. At that time, he resigned to accept the office of treasurer of the county. When John was ninety-four years of age he changed from voting as a Democrat to voting on the Prohibition Ticket. He agreed with the subjects of temperance and women’s suffrage. Both he supported wholeheartedly.
