TOP STORY OF THE DAY: Details limited about Saturday accident

Monday, April 25, 2022

The investigation is ongoing, but officials confirm a Bloomington man was airlifted to Indianapolis hospital for treatment Saturday evening after an accident.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a 9-11 caller reported an accident at the intersection of State Road 46 and County Road 200 E. in Clay County.

When the Clay County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived on the scene, they found two vehicles damaged and off the road in the ditch with utility poles and lines down.

Deputies believe Christopher James Flynn, 35, of Bloomington, was traveling eastbound on State Road 46 in a 1999 Dodge Dakota when Hannah Emmert pulled into the path of his vehicle. Marks left at the scene would indicate that Flynn attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the crash.

Emmert allegedly had been traveling south on County Road 200 East in a 2012 Lexus. Emmert said she proceeded into the intersection after not seeing any oncoming vehicles when speaking to deputies.

Flynn’s truck allegedly flipped and rolled several times before striking the utility pole. Flynn was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, where he was initially listed in stable condition. (Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, further information about the victims’ medical condition is unavailable.)

Emmert was arrested at the scene for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The investigation is still ongoing and more charges could be filed.
