TOP STORY OF THE DAY: Friday morning accident closed State Road 59 for short time

SUBMITTED PHOTO - State Road 59 was temporarily closed due to a Friday morning accident.

A 911 call reported an accident on State Road 59 shortly before 10 a.m.

Members of Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Brazil City Fire Department, and Dick Johnson Fire Department responded to the accident at SR 59 and County Road 1100 North.

A semi was over an embankment, allegedly due to the driver falling asleep.

While the driver was transported by STAR Ambulance to a Terre Haute hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the road was shut down temporarily to allow first responders to clear the scene. (Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, further information about the driver’s medical condition is unavailable.)

Motorists were urged to find an alternate route around the intersection. However, the roadway was open again within an hour.
