Letter to the Editor

To Our Clay County Friends & Neighbors

Tuesday, June 28, 2022

On behalf of our food pantries and letter carriers, I want to thank everyone who donated to this year’s “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive. “Thank you,” also, to all of our local sponsors, whose support is so very important to a small branch like ours.

“Thank you” to all of our volunteers, many of whom are provided by our food pantry partners. Among these were Roger Dulin and Kay Robinson from the Brazil Rotary Club, and Anna Long and Nancy Jonas of the Poland Lions Club. In the coming months, I will contact both groups about partnering with us for next year’s food drive.

Lastly, but certainly not least, I want to thank Paul (Stan) Stephens and Greg Karn, retired Brazil letter carriers. Paul handles our “command center” behind the Post Office all day. Greg drives the streets, collecting food and checking on letter carriers for as long as we need him. Words cannot express my appreciation for their unwavering support of this event.

After a two-year break, this year felt very much like going back to square one. This year we were unable to secure donation bags and we had a limited number of postcards to deliver. I will soon be searching for a local source to provide the bags we need to get our donations back to where they were before Covid.

Finally, summer is coming and donations traditionally go down - even though the need may very well go up. Please donate whatever you can whenever you can through the summer. “There, but for the Grace of God, go I.”

Thanks, again, for what you did and for whatever you do going forward.

Karen E. Stearley, National Association of Letter Carriers-Brazil Br. 670, Food Drive Coordinator
