UPDATED 4:31 pm Thursday, September 15, 2022:

A Brazil man was arrested Wednesday evening with 60 grams of Methamphetamine.

Brazil Police Department K9 Officer Chandler Damon observed a moped committing several traffic infractions and tried to stop it.

The moped operator refused to stop, went the wrong way on a one-way street, traveled through several citizens’ front yards, and eventually crashed in the alley of the 300 block of East Coal Street around 10 p.m.

That’s when the driver fled on foot.

Officer Damon gave chase, closing the distance. Attempting to capture the suspect, Damon deployed his Taser successfully, taking the suspect safely into custody. Medics were called to the scene and checked the suspect for injuries.

The suspect was later identified as Curtis Reed Modesitt, 42, Brazil.

Damon went back to the wrecked moped to inventory the contents. During this process, a bag dangling on the handlebars was searched. Inside were two smaller bags containing nearly 60 grams of Methamphetamine.

Transported to Clay County Justice Center, Modesitt was booked for level 3 felony Possession of Methamphetamine and two misdemeanors of Resisting Law Enforcement(MA) and Possession of Marijuana(MB). Modesitt was issued a $25,000 cash bond, no 10%, and remains incarcerated awaiting formal court proceedings.

Note: All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law.
