Times Staff Report

Clay Community Schools has released potentially vital information relating to school closures and delays as wild winter weather rapidly approaches. The corporation recently sent out a notice to parents and staff, which is available on its website (www.clay.k12.in.us). In part, it reads:

“Although we have been spared from any major winter weather events so far this school year, it’s probably only a matter of time before it hits our area.

Much like those who forecast the weather, calling school delays and cancellations is not an exact science. The Clay Community Schools Administration tries hard to make these calls as early as possible, but changing weather conditions dictate the timing on many of these decisions. With this said, a two-hour delay could be changed to a cancellation.

It is important for parents to be aware of this so they can be prepared to make additional arrangements, when necessary.

Our main goal is student safety, so your patience and understanding during our winter months are greatly appreciated!

5. Parents should continue to monitor the situation in the event a delay turns in to a closing because of worsening conditions.

6. Early Release: On occasion, weather conditions change for the worse during the day and cause the school day to be shortened. Unless conditions dictate otherwise, students will be released after lunch. The media will be notified of the times of early release, so parents should continue to monitor the situation throughout the day. a. Afternoon buses will depart school early.

7. Pre-school afternoon classes will be cancelled.

8. Parents should continue to monitor the situation to learn of the time of early release.

When conditions warrant, school officials will be traveling the roads between 4-6:30 a.m.
