TOP STORY OF THE DAY: Officials urge residents to secure their property

Clay County residents need to lock up their property, according to officials.

Several people have been arrested lately for various charges of theft, burglary, and possession of stolen properties, along with some drug charges.

On Dec. 26, Clay County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a burglary complaint on the west side of Clay County. Upon arrival, deputies learned that several structures on the property displayed signs of forced entry.

The victim reported tools and other miscellaneous items had been removed from the locked property.

Video surveillance was obtained and helpful during the investigation.

Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen said family members of the victim, along with help from the community, assisted in locating the vehicle used during the burglary.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle and processed it for evidence.

Jeremy Andrew Martin, 37, Terre Haute, was arrested on Jan. 3 for his alleged involvement in the burglary. He is currently incarcerated at the Clay County Justice Center on a $10,000 cash bond awaiting formal court proceedings.
