Joan (Pell) Hood, 90, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on January 13, 2023, while staying at Cloverleaf Health Care.

Joan was born on January 6, 1933, in Clay County, Indiana the daughter of Jesse and Ferrie (Weaver) Pell. She graduated as the co-valedictorian, with Bill Price, from Van Buren High School with the class of 1951. Joan married Don Hood on September 28, 1951. He preceded her in death after 47 years of marriage.

Joan attended Ebenezer Church for many years. She enjoyed mowing and watching IU Basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Ferrie Pell; her siblings: Virgie McDonald, Dean Pell, Doyne Pell, Si Pell, Norma Hood, Joy Hybarger, Jay Pell, and Dale Pell.

She is survived by her son Doug Hood; her daughter Kelly Short (Sam); grandchildren: Josh Short, Ryan Short (Bridgette), Katie Vickery (Ike); great-grandchildren: Levon Vickery, Bristol Short, and Bella Short; dear friend Jim Howard and close friend Kathy Hood; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home, at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
