Veleda “Vedee” Jean Eldridge, 88, of Brazil, Indiana passed away on January 10, 2023, following complications of a stroke.

Veleda was born on February 5, 1934, in Clay County, Indiana the daughter of Alva “Blunder” and Edna (Howald) Atkinson. She graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1951. Veleda married Jack D. Eldridge, 71 years ago, on January 13, 1952.

Veleda loved spending time with her family, reading and studying her Bible, gardening, and crocheting. She was known for making her delicious Christmas Rolls for the holidays. She enjoyed baking pies, cookies, and breads. She loved playing board games, working puzzles, and reading with her grandchildren. She had attended Berea Christian Church for many years. More recently, she had been a member of the Brazil First Christian Church. For many years she taught and lead songs at Vacation Bible School.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alva “Blunder” and Edna Atkinson; two siblings: Patricia Bolden and Richard Atkinson.

Surviving are her husband Jack D. Eldridge; children: Beverly (John) Turner, Alva (Kathy) Eldridge, and Gordon (Cris) Eldridge; grandchildren: Scot Turner, Jason (Mandy) Turner, Jennifer (Jeromy) White, Trent (Mandi) Eldridge, Andrick (Shayla) Eldridge; Great-grandchildren: Makayla (Mark) Paullus, Jonathan Turner, Emalyn Turner, Easton Turner, Addyson White, Owen White, Maisie Eldridge, Brooklyn Eldridge, Trey Eldridge, Emorie Eldridge, and baby Eldridge on the way; two siblings: Paul (Ann) Atkinson and Donna (Dr. David) Dersch as well as several extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home, on Sunday, at 3:00 PM with Pastor Chris Gregg officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
