With the weather forecast predicting the potential for more snow over the weekend, the United States Department of Transportation says whether it’s snow, sleet, or ice, winter weather can cause extremely dangerous road conditions. Preparing yourself – and your vehicle – for winter weather is key.

Here are a couple of safety tips to consider:

Slow down because it’s harder to control or stop a vehicle on a slick or snow-covered surface. In fact, in 2020, an estimated 119,000 police-reported crashes occurred in wintry conditions.

Don’t crowd other vehicles, especially snow plows, stay far enough behind to use caution when stopping, and stay safe.

As temperatures drop, so does tire inflation pressure. Ensure each tire is filled to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended inflation pressure in the owner’s manual.
