A vehicle-pedestrian accident last night in Brazil has officials urging people to use safety precautions.

Brazil Police Department responded to an accident report on Vandalia Street and Pell Drive around 7 p.m.

Assistant Police Chief Dennis Archer confirmed the motorist reported darkness, weather, and the bright headlights of an oncoming vehicle made it difficult to see a 67-year-old woman in the street until it was too late to stop.

STAR Ambulance crew members checked out the woman, sitting upright and talking at the scene, before she was transported to Union Hospital for further medical treatment. (NOTE: Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, additional information about the medical condition of victims is unavailable.)

Archer urges people out walking or getting some exercise after dark to be safe - carry a flashlight or wear something reflective.

“They should also stay out of roadways if possible,” said Archer, who understands not all sidewalks are in perfect condition. “It’s always good to stay on the sidewalks, or off the road, if you can, whether you are walking at night or in the early morning hours.”
