Multiple music students earn gold at recent competition

TERRE HAUTE — Several of Northiew’s distinguished music students earned top spots in their categories during a district solo and ensemble competition at Honey Creek High School in Terre Haute on Feb. 4.

Furthermore, many of them qualified for the Indiana State School Music Association’s statewide contest held Feb. 18 at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis, where six students took home either gold or silver placements.

Northview Choir Director Brenda Buchanan, who oversees many facets of the school’s music programs, praised her students for their hard work and dedication.

Student Aidan Emmert, who earned a perfect score Feb. 4 in the piano portion of the day’s contests, while Anna Thompson also took home a gold medal in the same category.

Meanwhile, Avrie Emmert, Emma Reinoehl, Mackenzie Cleveland, Marah Loughmiller, Mercy Parrish and Silas Emmert all earned gold and qualified for the state solo contest. In the same category, Aidrik Loughmiller earned gold alongside Hope Fewless, Johanna Brewer, Joslyn Slesinki, Layla Bell, Amber Christmas and Ariella Engle earned silver at Honey Creek High School Feb. 4.

In the ensemble contest, Avrie Emmert, Marah Loughmiller and Reinoehl qualified for the state level with a gold medal. Christmas, Cleveland and Slesinski took silver, as well as another group with Bell, Jaidyn Berry, Johannah Pruiett and Chesney Cunningham.

At the statewide ISSMA contest at Perry Meridian Feb. 18, Avrie Emmert, Marah Loughmiller, Mercy Parrish and Silas Emmert earned gold, while Reinoehl and Cleveland earned silver.

For the ISSMA voice ensembles, Avrie Emmert, Marah Loughmiller and Reinoehl earned gold with distinction.

Now these same students, along with a host of other proven performers, are set to host their spring musical at Northview, called “The Lion King, Jr.” The show is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8 and Friday, March 10 at Northview High School.

Presale tickets are available for $8; tickets will be $10 at the door.

Presale tickets for $8 are also available to be picked up at “will call” the night of the show. Cash, credit/debit cards and check are all accepted.
