Sally Jane Downey, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away following a recent cancer diagnosis on April 7, 2023, in Fishers, Indiana.

She was born in Brazil, Indiana on October 20, 1948 to Wayne and Lois (Reinoehl) Willison, who preceded her in death. She grew up in a large family, including her siblings Sue James, Jeanne Willison, the late Stacy Willison (Karen), Julia Schattenstein (Fred), Jana Brummett (Wyatt), and Charla Sprehe.

Sally graduated from Van Buren High School Class of 1966.

In 1968, Sally married George Downey, who preceded her in death just 6 months prior. Together, they raised two sons, Zachary Downey (Tricia) and Tyson Downey. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and shared in their joys and sorrows. She was also a doting grandmother to her grandsons, Keagan and Dash Downey, whom she cherished deeply. In addition to her immediate family, Sally is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will remember her fondly.

Throughout her working life, Sally held various positions that showcased her culinary skills. She was a baker at the Me & Ewe Tea Room, and served as a cook at Greencastle Schools for many years. Sally’s love for cooking extended beyond her professional life, and she was known for her delectable desserts and dishes, which she lovingly prepared for her family and friends.

Sally also had a passion for “treasure hunting” at flea markets and yard sales, always on the lookout for unique finds to add to her collections or to gift to her loved ones. She thoroughly enjoyed her vintage hankies, glassware, buttons, and more, each piece holding a special memory or story.

Sally was a dedicated member of her church. Her strong faith guided her through life and was a source of comfort and strength to her and those around her. Sally’s involvement in the church community brought her many cherished friendships, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
