For the 2023-2024 school year, the first day of school for students in Clay Community Schools will be Wednesday, August 9. Teachers will report on Monday, August 7, at Northview High School for a general organizational meeting.

The CCS 2023-24 In-Person Instruction Plan will be posted on the school corporation website and will be available for viewing at www.clay.k12.in.us, under the CCS Roadmap Information tab.  You may refer to the website for updates throughout the school year.

All elementary principals will be available in their building as of Monday, July 31. If you have any questions, please contact the school in which your child is enrolled. Please view the information on each school’s website.

Registration times for new students will be as follows for all elementary schools:

NOTE: Due to new employee training at Jackson Township Elementary on Thursday, August 3, the school will be open only between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on that date.

Documents Needed for Enrollment:

Immunizations:

All preschool, kindergarten, and students new to Clay Community Schools should bring a copy of their completed immunization record, to school when enrolling.

Birth Certificate:

Please provide a copy of the child’s certified birth certificate. (We cannot accept the paper sent home from the hospital at the time of birth.)

Proof of Address:

Proof of address must be on file for each student. Documentation may include such items as a current utility bill, telephone bill, rental/lease agreement, or similar information that provides a verifiable address. Documentation should be dated within 60 days of student enrollment, and the date should be clearly identified and readable on the copy on file for the student.

TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT:

The CCS Transportation Department is currently working on bus routes for the 2023-24 school year. The Transportation Department is REQUIRING ALL NEW STUDENTS and STUDENTS WITH ROUTING CHANGES to register online.

The online form can be found on the Clay Community School website at www.clay.k12.in.us in the Transportation section. This form MUST be filled out for NEW students requiring transportation and for those with address changes.

Bus routes will be based on student registrations.

Questions regarding bus transportation can be addressed by calling the transportation office at 812-442-7121.

The schedules for enrolling, school visitations, etc. for Clay City Jr/Sr High School, Northview High School, and North Clay Middle School are as follows:

Clay City:

Class schedules and other back-to-school information for students in grades 7-12 can be picked up in the Main Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday, July 24, through Monday, July 31. Any information not picked up by the end of the day on Monday, July 31, will be mailed to students. The school’s Main Office resumes regular hours and schedule beginning Monday, July 24.

Beginning Monday, July 24, new students may register in the guidance office. Also, students/parents with questions about schedules can call the school at 812-939-2154 to schedule an appointment with a counselor (July 24 – August 4).

Seventh Grade Orientation will be held in The Eel Dome on Tuesday, August 1, at 6:30 p.m.

All students, except for grade seven, will report to their first period classes on Wednesday, August 9. Seventh grade students will report to the Auditeria. All students will receive lockers/combinations and other pertinent information at a homeroom session after 1st period on August 9.

Northview:

Beginning Monday, July 24, any new student needing to enroll should start the enrollment process on the school’s website (www.NorthviewHighSchool.org) (“I’m looking for… 2023-2024 Northview High School Enrollment Form”).

There will be a Freshmen Orientation for all incoming freshmen on Monday, August 7 in the auditorium. Students should plan to meet from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. to receive their schedules, meet with counselors, and tour the building. Parents are invited to an informational meeting in the auditorium from 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

All students should report to first period on Wednesday, August 9, where they will receive their schedules.

There will be no class schedule changes except to correct a schedule mistake or balance classes, as per the policy in the Course Description Booklet. All scheduling questions can be answered after school starts by signing up to see a counselor.

School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Backpacks must be kept in lockers. Purses can be no larger than the average textbook.

North Clay Middle School:

NCMS students will be able to pick up schedules, get locker information, and walk through the building on Tuesday, August 1st, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, August 2nd, from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Administrators and counselors will be available to answer questions. Student Ambassadors will also be available to lead tours and answer questions. Schedules will be able to be accessed on PowerSchool. New enrollments can be done online on the CCS webpage. Go to www.clay.k12.in.us. Click on the “Student Enrollment” tab and then “2023/2024 North Clay Middle School Enrollment.”

Elementary Open House Schedules

Clay City Elementary: Thursday, August 10, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Open House will begin in the gym at 6:00 p.m. Teachers will be in their classrooms following the program in the gym. Students will have the opportunity to introduce their parents to their teacher, along with bringing any additional supplies. The PTO will speak during the program about their organization and invite parents to their next meeting in September.

East Side Elementary: Monday, August 7, 4:00-5:00 p.m. Kindergarten Parent Orientation will be held on the same day at 3:30 p.m. (parents only).

Forest Park Elementary: Monday, August 7, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Class lists will be posted and teachers should be available to meet with students.

Jackson Township Elementary: Tuesday, August 8, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Class lists will be posted, and students will have the opportunity to meet their classroom teacher. The open house will also provide parents and students the opportunity to bring school supplies.

Meridian Elementary: Tuesday, August 8, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Open House will begin in the gym at 5:30 p.m. for the Title I Parent Meeting and introduction of Meridian teachers and staff. Teachers will be in their classrooms following the program in the gym. Students will have the opportunity to meet their teacher and bring in supplies. Car riders will also be able to pick up their car numbers as well.

Staunton Elementary: Monday, August 7, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Class lists will be posted, and students will have the opportunity to meet their classroom teacher. The open house will also provide parents and students the opportunity to bring school supplies.

Van Buren Elementary: Tuesday, August 8, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Kindergarten Parent Orientation will be held the same afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Breakfast, Lunch Prices:

The school meals program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). For the School Year 2023-24, our school corporation will process free and reduced-priced meal benefit applications. Applications are available online at www.claycs.schoollunchapp.com.

Students who are not approved for free or reduced-price meal benefits before the start of the school year will be classified as paid status, and meal charges may begin to accumulate starting the first day of school.

Please remember to send lunch money with students on the first day of school or add money to your child’s online account at www.myschoolbucks.com.

Extra Milk 40˘

Breakfast/Lunch charges are no longer allowed at the middle school or high school level. For elementary students, three charges will be allowed, but students will be asked to pay for those charges. Students without money for meals after charges are accumulated will be provided with a peanut butter/jelly sandwich and milk.
