The 2023 Route 40 Festival is this weekend, and the Brazil Police Department wants the public to remember that there will be road closings along US 40 on Friday night in Brazil.

MOTORISTS URGED TO FIND ALTERNATE ROUTE OF TRAVEL

A section of US 40 from State Road 59 intersection west to Depot Street will be closed Friday to set up for the Saturday, September 16 event.

Assistant Police Chief Dennis Archer said members of Brazil Main Street are setting up early this year, so traffic will be rerouted starting at 6 p.m. Friday.

No traffic will be allowed to cross US40 at Washington, Sherfey, Walnut, Franklin, and Meridian streets.

Archer also said a portion of Washington Sreet will be closed down. Motorists should make plans to avoid the areas shut down for the event.

According to Archer, all vehicles must be moved off the roadway to allow the various stages, food trucks, rides, and vendors time to set up. Police will be in the area to reroute any traffic.

If not moved, a vehicle left parked along the street will risk being towed away.

NO ATVS, ORVS, 4 WHEELERS, GOLF CARTS AT FESTIVAL

As it grows, the downtown festival provides visitors with live entertainment, a cruise-in, food trucks, more than 150 vendors, kids activities, and more. With so much growth and the expected large crowd, the area will not be conducive for people to use any 4-wheelers, golf carts, ORVs, or ATVS.

Archer said those vehicles are prohibited from being used on the highway or city sidewalks by law or city ordinance.

Any vehicles unrelated to the Route 40 Festival located in the area will be asked to leave.

“The vehicles create a safety hazard in large crowds,” said Archer. “It’s a big event for our community; we want everyone to be safe.”
