TOP STORY OF THE DAY - WARRANT SWEEP UPDATE: 3 arrested for Armed Robbery

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigative Division continues its recent warrant sweep in the county, leading to three arrests for armed robbery.

The initial incident that led to the investigation, subsequent warrants, and arrest of the three individuals was the alleged theft of a vehicle at Chinook Fish & Wildlife area last July.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the following individuals were served arrest warrants and incarcerated in the Clay County Jail with a $25,000 cash bond(with no 10% allowed):

Mason E. Skelton, 21, Brazil

Armed Robbery (F3)

Pointing a Firearm (F6)

$25,000 Cash Bond

Skelton represented himself when appearing in Clay Circuit Court on September 1, where he was advised of his rights and formal charges. Pleading not guilty, Skelton requested that an indigent defense council be appointed, which was granted along with his bond of $25,000 with 10 percent. No contact orders were issued in the case. A jury trial is scheduled for late January 2024.

On September 5, Skelton was bonded out at the Clerk’s Office to await formal court proceedings.

Shawn M. Alexander, 19. Brazil

Armed Robbery (F3)

$25,000 Cash Bond

Alexander appeared in Clay Superior Court to be advised of his rights and formal charges. An indigent defense council was appointed, and no contact orders were issued. Alexander was also scheduled for a jury trial in late January 2024.

Alexander remains incarcerated, awaiting formal court proceedings.

Owen Lee Bell, 20, Brazil

Armed Robbery (F3)

Pointing a Firearm (F6)

Auto Theft (F6)

$25,000 Cash Bond

Appearing in Clay Circuit Court, Bell was advised of his rights and formal charges, the indigent defense council was appointed, and the cash bond was set at $25,000 with 10 percent allowed. No contact orders were established for the case. The jury trial is set for late January 2024.

A bail review was held on September 29, but the bond stayed the same due to the review by Clay County Community Corrections needing to be completed. Upon completion of the report the next day, the court ruled the bonding information would remain the same,

Bell remains incarcerated, awaiting formal court proceedings.
