Vigo County vehicle pursuit ends in Clay County

Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen released limited details about Thursday’s early morning vehicle pursuit that entered Clay County.

According to Sheriff Swearingen, Deputies and Detectives were notified about the pursuit by Vigo County. The vehicle entered the county on CR 1200 North and stopped near CR 300 East due to road construction, where the driver was taken into custody.

The passenger, later identified as Gabriel Ramirez Barocia, 18, Terre Haute, IN, fled the scene on foot.

Throughout Thursday, according to Sheriff Swearingen, department members, with the assistance of the Indiana Department of Corrections, looked for Barocia.

Utilizing a drone, Barocia was ultimately located hiding in a corn field in northern Van Buren township.

Deputies, detectives, and canine units entered the field and took Bariocia into custody.

Gabriel Ramirez Barocia was taken to the Clay County Justice Center, booked into jail, and preliminarily charged with the following:

• Resisting Law Enforcement - A Misdemeanor; and

• Criminal Trespass - A Misdemeanor.

Barocia may face additional charges in Vigo County.

Barocia is incarcerated with a $5,000 cash bond awaiting formal court proceedings.

No details are available about the driver at this time.
