BREAKING: Nursing home fire contained

At approximately 10:54 a.m. today, Clay County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from Cloverleaf Health Center reporting a fire. Nursing staff immediately began relocating residents to a safe area in the facility.

No injuries of staff or residents were reported. The small fire was contained and extinguished at approximately 11:15 a.m.

According to Sheriff Brison Swearingen at the scene, the 71 residents were safe and evacuated to a secure location. Clay Community School Corporation provided several buses for transport.

There was immense response from first responders. These included the Brazil City Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, Knightsville Town Marshall's Office, STAR Ambulance Service, Trans-Care Ambulance Service, and DNR officers.

The fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshall Office.
