The total eclipse of 2024 is a once-in-a-lifetime event and a reason to take the day off from school.

Dr. Tim Rayle announced that Clay Community Schools will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024.

“Due to the significant visitor traffic predicted and concern for the safety of our students, bus drivers, and employees, we are moving our Monday, February 5, Flexibility Waiver Day to Monday, April 8.

Students will have school on Monday, February 5. Students will not have school on Monday, April 8. Teachers will have a professional development day.”

The Clay County Chamber of Commerce and 4-H invite the public to the once-in-a-lifetime celebration on April 6-8.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun on Monday, April 8, 2024, and is only visible across a portion of North America, including Clay County.

The totality of the event is three minutes and 15 seconds.

The three-day celebration includes many activities: educational, music, guest speakers, vendors, food, a car & Jeep show, games, camping, and church services.
