Vivian Etling is a senior at Northview High School. She is involved in DECA and National Honors Society and also manages the boys' football team. Outside of school, Vivian dances at Moores Dance Company and is chairman of the Junior Department Club.

Etling also interns at the Honeysuckle Hill Beestro. She states that she began working there her sophomore year and that she has gained experience in marketing, her future major.

“I had originally worked there because of the short distance from my house, but eventually loved the people and all the skills I've been able to learn.”

During her junior year, Vivian was able to become the regional officer for Indiana DECA. DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) teaches students the fundamentals of business and allows them to compete at local, state, and international levels. These competitions involve business scenarios, sales pitches, and projects that students are judged upon.

“It was a great experience that led me to become interested in my future career path. It has also helped me become a leader, especially as DECA chapter president this year.”

In the future, Vivian plans to go to college to study marketing. She explains that marketing will allow her to use her creativity as well as logic and mathematics.

“I want to help business owners grow their businesses with my marketing knowledge and skills.”

Etling explains that her involvement in DECA has led her to this career decision.

“In 2022, my DECA team was able to go to the international competition. We highlighted local businesses through social media and gained a following. It was an amazing way to use our skills to help our community.”

At some point in her life, Vivian would love to travel.

“I have [traveled] a little bit, but it would be amazing to see all the amazing things the world has to offer.”
