After some questions by readers about Amber Alerts, the Clay County Sheriff's Department weighed in on the topic.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office confirms David Griffith is listed as a runaway, not an Amber Alert.

Officials say Griffith does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, which includes:

The child must be under 18 years of age.

The child must be believed to be abducted AND in danger of serious bodily harm or death.

There must be enough descriptive information to believe the broadcast will help.

These procedures are required for all Indiana law enforcement agencies requesting the state-wide Amber Alert activation.

David Griffith, 17, has been missing from his Center Point home since Friday, October 13th.

Richard believes that being out on fall break from Northview High School, David might be at a friend’s house in the Brazil area.

Richard has spoken to family members in Indianapolis and the authorities there but has not heard anything.
