Opal Edith Tucker, 102, passed away on October 17, 2023 at the Villas of Holly Brook in Brazil, IN.

Ms. Tucker was born on July 13, 1921, in Clay County, the daughter of Lewis and Opal (Butler) Mace. She graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1939 and attended Indiana Business College, graduating in 1941. During World War II, she worked in the U.S. Civil Service Office of Price Administration as a secretary before staying home to care for her growing family.

She was a renowned cook and baking was her specialty. Family favorites included her cinnamon rolls and apple dumplings, to name a few. If it had sugar in it, she could make it! In 1991, she compiled her favorite cookie and bread recipes into a cookbook that has been printed and shared with hundreds of people.

Her biggest passion however, was her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, Granny and Aunt Edie. Nothing made her happier than having everyone over for get togethers. She hosted many family summer reunions and Christmas gatherings over the years with many times 100 or more people attending.

Edith loved to travel with family and friends. Her travels took her many places including the Holy Land and a mission trip to Dominica. During the Christmas season she would display all the nativity scenes she collected during her travels.

As a devout Christian, Edith was well known for her faith and love of her church family. She was a member of the Seelyville United Methodist Church for nearly 80 years, where she was very active in many positions including leading circles, Sunday School classes, functioning as the lay leader and numerous other positions on the church board.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Lewis and Opal Mace; her daughter Cassandra “Cassie” Peters; and her siblings: Ethel Pell, Hazel Mayer, John Mace, Jim Mace, and Victor “Tub” Mace.

Left behind to cherish their memories are her two sons: Lyndon (Kathy) Tucker of Angola, Indiana and B.J. (Tammy) Tucker of Terre Haute; grandchildren: David Tucker, Steven (Pam) Tucker, Angela Tucker, Michelle (Bill) Kessler, Amanda (Tony) Eades, Andrew (Angel) Tucker, Matthew Tucker, Mark Tucker, and Jessica (Matt) Ballard; 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; sisters Jean Seville and Mary Hirt as well as over a hundred nieces and nephews.
