UPDATED: Clay County and City of Brazil declare Burn Ban
It's been a busy week for firefighters around the county after multiple brush and structure fires.
With the advice of the Clay County Emergency Management Director and pursuant to Clay County Ordinance 16-2012 and IC 10-14-3-29, Clay County Commissioners proclaim an Open Burn Emergency.
Due to dry conditions and increased winds, The Clay County Commissioners have declared a county-wide burn ban lasting seven days.
Those violating this order shall incur a fine of $300.00 per day, with each day of violation being a separate offense.
The City Council has also announced a burn ban in the City of Brazil lasting seven days.
All open burning, including wood, weeds, and other vegetation, is prohibited.
The seven-day burn ban will end on November 15, 2023.
Update to the story:
Due to the dry conditions, the Clay County Commissioners and the City of Brazil have extended the Burn Ban for one more week until November 22.
