Anita Rose “Rosie” Deakins, a spirited, funny, and faith-filled woman, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023, in Brazil, Indiana. Born on July 9, 1943, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Rosie was a beloved figure in her community, known for her infectious laughter, her love for her family, and her passion for life.

Rosie was a proud graduate of Brazil High School, where she was known for her quick wit and friendly demeanor. She was a stay-at-home mom who raised her two daughters. After her children were grown, she began her professional journey as a secretary at American Security Insurance. Her attention to detail and organizational skills were quickly recognized, leading her to a position as a bookkeeper at Pell’s Bargain Mart. Rosie’s entrepreneurial spirit later led her to open her own t-shirt printing shop, Herkamers Place, which became a beloved local business.

Rosie was a woman of many interests and hobbies. She was an avid crocheter, creating beautiful pieces that she often gifted to friends and family. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for mushroom hunting, a pastime she enjoyed sharing with her loved ones. Rosie also had a keen eye for collecting Rose of Sharon dishes, amassing a collection that was admired by all who visited her home.

In addition to her hobbies, Rosie was a dedicated animal lover. Her compassion for animals was a testament to her kind and loving nature. Rosie was also a puzzle enthusiast. She found joy in the challenge of completing complex puzzles, often spending hours immersed in this favorite pastime. Her love for puzzles was a reflection of her tenacity and determination, traits that she carried throughout her life.

Above all, Rosie cherished spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, always putting the needs of her loved ones before her own. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, where everyone was always welcome.

Rosie is preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Helen (Eubanks) Hoffman, two son in laws, Stephen White and Bradley Karn I and a grandson, Bradley Karn II.

Rose is survived by her two daughters, Shelly Ann Karn and Sheila Jo Lavallee (Donald), grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Clodfelter (Matt), Benjamin Joseph Karn, Stephanie Rose Pund (Cameron), great grandchildren, Julia, Nora, and Ava Clodfelter, one sister, Sharon Lee Hoffman, and a very close friend, Nan Engle.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 14th from 1 – 3 P.M. at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Avenue in Brazil. A funeral service will begin at 3 P.M. Burial follow at Clearview Cemetery.
